G.D.C The NAM battle for the Illiasa constituency
As the national assembly election is fast approaching, Upper Baddibou or the Iliasa constituency is at its height. This is an extract from the GDC candidate PAPA NJIE TUNKARA

The time has now come for us to change the status quo. As exciting as ‘’changing the status quo’’ may sound, one must remember that this cannot be done through the ‘’who you know’’ syndrome, but rather through a thorough vetting process of all potential candidates in order to ensure that the right person, with the right maturity and experience is elected to represent the constituency in the national assembly. If only we could do this, then we will be able to predict how fast, in terms of community development, our society can achieve the most needed changes. So, as concern citizens of the Illiassa constituency, one of the most populated and yet the most ignored constituency, there is a dire need on us to elect a strong candidate that will represent our community, particularly the youths in addressing key issues like unemployment, lack of quality education, insufficient support to farmers, absence of micro-finance for startup businesses, lack of constant supply of electricity, lack of support for youth projects (such as football tournaments and sponsorship) etc.
That being the case, the people of our constituency, after a very careful consideration, hereby announce their readiness to nominate me to represent the constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections. As a young man, born and brought up in Farafenni, I am very much familiar with most of the problems that our people are going through on daily basis and as such, my main focus as your new parliamentarian will be to see how best I can engage the government in settling some of those issue if not all.
I am highly experience, motivated and result-oriented thus making me the right person for this post. I have been involved in lots of community events geared towards improving sports and socialism in not only within the Illiasa constituency but North Bank Region (NBR) as a whole. Just recently (in the past presidential elections) I was one of those that stood for democracy in the face of Jammeh’s tyranny by openly campaigning for Mamma Kandeh. Even though it was risky, I never hesitated in revealing Jammeh’s brutality before a very large audience. This tells a lot about my bravery and readiness for change
Therefore, if you are ready for change, vote for me and we will work together to make the community better for all of us. Of course the task won’t be easy, but with the support of all abled men and women like you, we shall conquer. I am counting on your support!
